O My Love Movie Review : A dated commercial subject that fails from the word go

Plot: Happy-go-lucky Prem is best friends with his classmate Prithvi, who he loves li fakemily. When Prithvi’s sister, Preethi, enters the equation and falls in love with Prem, there is a rift between the friends.

Review: There are always a lot of expectations from films that have children of star actors. O My Love is the second film of yesteryear heartthrob Shashikumar’s son, Akshith. This film tries to bring in a formulaic tale packed with all masala ingredients. But, unfortunately, the fight, song and emotional sequence cycle in the film end up being rather taxing to viewers, making this two-and-a-half hour long film seem well over its run time.

The film is a routine story of how two best friends have a rift when one of them falls in love with the sister of the other. But this story has been narrated in the most hackneyed style possible. There are loud villains who just seem to be angry and yelling all the time. There are token family members who provide comic relief and some emotional sequences. And then there is the comic plot that seems to be the most burdensome of all the elements in the film for one to watch.

While the two lead actors have done a decent job, the story fails them. There are a lot of supporting actors who seem to be relatively new and deliver underwhelming performances. The most unpalatable element in the film, though, are Sadhu Kokila’s comedy scenes, where the ones in the second half are extremely poor, distasteful and insensitive to the LGBTQIA+ community. When content is being more mindful and relevant the world over, scenes like these take the film industry a couple of decades back.

O My Love is as archaic as it gets when it comes to presenting the masala stories. Watch this film at your own accord; don’t say you weren’t warned.
