Meri Awas Suno Movie Review : A ‘survival’ family drama

Story: RJ Shankar’s voice, style and dialogues have won him many admirers, but an unfortunate event turns his life and that of his family upside down

Review: RJ Shankar (Jayasurya), his wife Kavita (Sshivada), a newsreader in a channel, and their son find their lives upturned when Shankar faces a tragic event in his life. The story revolves around the family and their doctor Sulakshna (Manju Warrier). RJ Shankar’s popularity comes not only from the fact that he is good at his job, but also for his good deeds, causing some heartburn among colleagues at his station. And suddenly RJ Shankar loses his most valuable asset – his voice – because of his chain-smoking, and doctors rule out his chance of speaking again. Will he come back to the studio to host his popular show?

The struggles of an RJ, and husband and father, are portrayed excellently by Jayasurya. Some scenes remind you of Jayasurya-Prajesh Sen’s earlier venture Captain, the way Jayasurya was determined to regain his lost glory in football. Sshivada as a struggling, yet supportive wife, lives up to the character. Manju Warrier, as a bold woman activist and a voice therapist, excels in her first movie with Jayasurya.

Director Prajesh Sen’s latest venture once again with Jayasurya, after Captain and Vellam tell a different story of a modern working family and their struggles. Music by M Jayachandran is a relief at tense moments, and Pranayam Enna Oru Vakku and Eeran Nila are hummable.
