Haluaman Movie Review : An underdog superhero movie with darker implications

Haluaman portrays how adults, burdened with excessive social expectations, fail to understand their children’s true potential. Also, how parents usually urge their kids to either be competitive among peers or become all-rounders. And director Abhimanyu Mukherjee has done a good job of striking a contrast between a child who empowers have-nots with love and friendship and other children who are not paid proper attention to and get constantly shamed for not getting full marks.
The narrative swings back and forth between drama and comedy with serious moments in between. The dynamics between Paran Bandopadhyay and Soham Chakraborty is a treat to watch, thanks to some great acting. Soumyodipta’s innocence coupled with his smartness wins the audience’s hearts. He delivers some power-packed performances, especially in scenes with Paran Bandopadhyay. Then there’s the antagonist, Dushtuman’s uncle played by Biswanath Basu, who too manages to keep the audience engaged with his great performance. In fact, the cast is the biggest strength of the film.
The soundscape is also perfect, with the right music highlighting the superhero entry music to emotional scenes. The visual effects are bang on and the shots and cuts are quite well-framed. Overall, Haluaman is an entertaining watch for the whole family.
