Daagdi Chaawl 2 Movie Review : The legend of Daddy moves forward in an interesting way

There are some stories that can’t be confidently called true or fictitious. They fall somewhere in between these two zones. One such story is that of the Daagdi Chaawl franchise. While the first part set certain events in motion, Daagdi Chaawl 2, directed by Chandrakant Kanse, takes the story forward. Though the makers clearly mention in a disclaimer that this film is fictitious, the fact that this story’s central character, Daddy, is inspired by a real person makes viewers relate certain reel happenings with real incidents.

Daagdi Chaawl 2’s USP is the character of Daddy, created by Kanse and brilliantly portrayed by Makarand Deshpande. On one hand, while the film focuses on this character, it also showcases the turmoil in the life of the film’s hero, Surya (Ankush Chaudhari) and his wife Sonal (Pooja Sawant). This is Kanse’s third directorial and while he meets the viewers’ expectations, there will be added curiosity about his next projects given the way he has handled the first three.

The film itself starts on a slow note and takes around 20 minutes to catch pace. If you’ve seen the first part, you may find the initial developments a tad boring. The story primarily revolves around Daddy and Surya. While Daddy has made his way into politics, Surya, on Sonal’s insistence, has moved away from Dagdi Chawl and is living a peaceful life with his family. However, his quality of helping people in need remains intact. So, when two of Daddy’s trusted aides are killed and it looks like the man himself is in danger now, Surya is called back. Surya declines the offer. This is where the narrative takes an interesting turn. What happens next is for you to find out.

In terms of performances, Deshpande and Chaudhari stand out. Sawant delivers what’s expected of her well too. With a strong base of politics and the gang wars in Mumbai, you can definitely go in expecting violence and some strong language, but Kanse has made sure not to go overboard. All in all, Daagdi Chaawl 2 is a decent watch for this weekend.
