Chattambi Movie Review : An adventure that falls short

Story: A look into the life of a village goon

Review: Sakharia George aka Karia (Sreenath Bhasi) is a henchman of John (Chemban Vinod), and his other associate Baby (Binu Pappu), and they control Kuttar, a border village in Idukki. Their main job is making illegal arrack and money lending.

Karia, a rough guy, got started on this parth as a ‘chattambi’ after he beat his father as a child. While he is always high on ganja and illegal arrack, he is loved and hated in the village for his good deeds and his highhandedness respectively. Karia starts feeling John is not taking him seriously and not paying him enough, which brings a gap in their relationship and Karia plans to part ways. What happens when John comes to know about his plans and how he will react, and what will be the fate of Karia’s plans makes the rest of the story.

Chattambi starts and progresses in a novel, non-linear manner. Making the movie with a couple of real characters, a raw quality and a single plot story without much lag helps to keep it moving, thanks to the efforts of scriptwriter Alex Joseph and debut director Abhilash S Kumar. But ultimately, it is just a rough, simple revenge story.

Sreenath Bhasi’s look and acting makes Chattambi a living character. Actors Grace Antony, Mythili and Chemban Vinod also give memorable performances.
