Masterful.

The art has a calm glow of red warmth off a mom’s back. It’s love, space, smile.‘Motherhood’ couldn’t look like a painting, it’s nature, life. The spaces around the baby , above the mom’s butt is warmly tucked. It’s the warmth of the Ghanian mother. There is unevenness around the silhouette of the figures, it is the dark forces in the continent. The art is contemporary, people, society, community, animals try to hurt the child; but the mother takes the child through the ocean through babyhood. The love of a Ghanian mother.

The art shows a child carrying some load on her head. It’s a beautiful figure of a child. In the contemporary art the figure is wearing a frock like design and they have linear spaced design. The colour is orange, orangy, orange. Some dust on the face of the child, dust of the day probably. The painting is quite expanded.

Contemporary art in this canvas breaks through the silence. There is the slapping of drums here and there. The beautiful djembe has come to Pune in many drum circles. One example is Taal Drum Inc.I am looking for some stark element in the painting, couldn’t find any. The faces of the musicians are quite distinct, a modern art style objects on the face. There is no saxophone as it is traditional music. A sun in the right hand corner shows brightness. There is a purplish brightness to the right. The painting veritably breaks through the silence !

Rhythm is a fabulous work staring at you.The art has girls and boys in the painting. Modernity has come to the village as women are wearing skirts. Men in huge cloaks look like priests. Hands of some dancers are visible. You can see the merry-making-Ghanian culture. A drum like instrument is present to the left. On the left there is a comb.Women are seen purple colored dress. The art is quite different from the previous works and there are lots of spaces between the objects. A priest in yellow is wearing gaudy colors.

The art is a blue spotted canvas with pink to the right. It feels the painter has dropped some color to the right and has let it mix.The whites build a window like formation and a circle lies down. The formations are uneven unlike the previous works. A black and white formation is there which climbs up and down. It reminds you of a road. Also there is a pinkish formation. The art is modern but there is little I could comprehend of it. A mysterious painting probably still in the mind of the artist.

Contemporary art, modern art, abstract art; so many adjectives come to the mind on looking at a canvas !In the canvas by the painter Manisha Vedpathak, masks on the canvas show togetherness, looking out. The milieu of the painting presents an un-introspective culture. The people hide themselves behind the masks for playfulness, not for hypocrisy or unfair intentions. There is triableness in their togetherness. The faces with white marks show their natural struggle. Yet, the art in the painting glows warmly. On a closer look I see lines, circles, square which are modern and Van Gogish (loosely) , not strictly contemporary also. The color of the acrylic used in the art is fiery, lively and powerful. The array of colors used are yellow, red, pink, white, red, yellow, orange, you could see upto five masks or faces. At the lower end the comb seems to be touching the matted hair. The masks have a strong element of theatre about them. There is a story-telling oral culture. Africa is the land of Wilbur Smith novels. The distinctive feature of lips being big. And the big noses. The painting is a contribution-work-of-art.
